Come see this rare combination of color literally on paper and glass!
Rockaway Center for the Arts (RoCA)

Glass & Water Art Exhibition at Rockaway Artists Alliance, Rockaway, NY from Nov 21 – Dec 6 contains two different Rockaway artists, Renée B. Radenberg and Christian LeGars, from two different countries, with two different backgrounds, using two different mediums which comes together to form a very rare and special art show. The blending of glass mobiles, glass sculptures with watercolors and original prints gives the art motion, color, and a living presence. The use of space and visual stimulus together transforms the glass and watercolor pieces to blend together as one.

Christian brings a fresh look to watercolor with his dynamic use of color and black and white. He is a master of chiaroscuro, switching the play of light and shadow, a primary element of his compositions. "In his last exhibition Christian was rewarded with very high praise for his sensitivity to light and color as well as his unique feeling for texture and line," stated John Smith-Amato, Director of Synchronicity Space. Christian's original prints are so exquisite that they appear as if he used a brush instead of a printer's plate. "Watercolorist Christian LeGars has of late brought his unique vision and considerable talent to the art of printmaking," Susan Hartenstein, Art Columnist, Wave newspaper.

Renée's source of inspiration is nature even though the art pieces are abstract. The medium used, metals and glass come from natural surroundings. She uses glass (recycled and scrap stained glass) as weights in mobiles and free forms it into sculptures. Using the various metals (copper, aluminum, etc. new or used) with the glass, the mobiles and sculptures are colorful and transformed into whirling, playful objects to view in amazement. The area between the objects suspended in the air and the rotation in space is very magical.

Christian LeGars was born in Paris, France and is one of only 25 printmakers whose work appears in the first portfolio ever to be published of the internationally renowned Printmaking Workshop under the direction of Robert Blackburn. He has spent his formative years in Montmartre, the birthplace of the impressionists; in Bretagne, with the school of Pont Aven created by Gauguin; and the international colony of Concarneau. He states, "I was transcended being surrounded by the art and influences of such artists as Gauguin, Toulouse Lautrec, Utrillo, Signac and other. It was a gift of beauty." His work is in numerous individual collections worldwide including the Jacques Mallet Collection, Library of Congress, and Washington, D.C., the permanent print collection of the Montclair Museum, NJ, and the Robert Blackburn Collection, NY. His exhibitions include those at The Salmagundi Art Club, National Arts Club, Allied Artists of America, Audubon Society, and Synchronicity Space. Christian was the recipient of the Manhattan Arts International magazine Artist Showcase Award, the ManhattanArts.com Artist of the Month Award, and the Jack Richeson and Co. Gold Brush Award for Watercolor.

Renée B. Radenberg, a native New Yorker, is a rising artist who uses recycled and scrap stain glass in non-traditional methods. She showed artistic abilities at an early age. With the encouragement and mentoring from her parents and various art teachers in her youth that talent was developed and led her to Parsons School of Design, New York. There she gained a greater understanding of design, space, color and light. Renée has worked with different mediums, such as oil painting landscapes/still-life and inks. She, however, presently works mainly with glass and metals forming mobiles (large and small) and sculptures. Her work has been shown in numerous art exhibitions at different art organizations, including Pen and Brush, NY, and Audubon Artists at The Salmagundi Art Club, NY. She was selected to create a holiday tree ornament for the Whitehouse tree during the Bush administration. She was also featured Artist at Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Coalition, awarded the Best Art Piece at 364 Gallery Recycle, Reuse Art Exhibition, and one of her mobiles was the first ever featured at the Audubon Artists 67th Art Exhibit.

Glass & Water will be at studio7 Fort Tilden, Rockaway, NY on weekends from November 21 through December 6. There will be a Fundraising "Tree" to help raise funds for Rockaway Artists Alliance. Rockaway Artists Alliance, Inc. (RAA) is a not-for-profit arts organization comprised of individuals who are dedicated to promoting the arts through diversity, education and public service.
